The hauntingly beautiful Whitby Abbey, inspiration for Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' and a navigation point for sailors in the North Sea for over 1000 years. Sitting on the cliff overlooking this North Yorkshire fishing port, the abbey fell into ruins during the dissolution of the monasteries in 1540 and was further damaged in December 1914 from shelling by German warships.
